Mission and Institutional Characteristics

Institutional Mission Statement: Dunlap-Stone University strives to offer the highest quality distance education to adult learners by offering Professionally Significant Degrees®, innovative courses and a student-centered experience in alignment with our commitment to honor, distinction and excellence in higher education.
Areas of Special Focus: Business, criminal justice, education, social science and the humanities with an emphasis on the practical application of skills.
Description of the Institution: DSU offers quality educational programs that are professionally significant to non-traditional learners via fully online distance education programs.
Student Demographic/Profile: Because of our commitment to non-traditional learners, there is no typical DSU student. Of the 549 students who began their studies at DSU in 2025:

Race/Ethnicity: white (67%); Hispanic (8%), African-American (4%) Asian (5%), Native American (1%); and multiple ethnicities or chose not to report (15%). 
Gender: female (44%), male (56%)
Student Age: 18-22 (34%); 23-28 (13%); 28-34 (7%); 35-40 (10%); 41-45 (10%); 46-50 (8%); 51-55 (7%); 56-60 (6%); 61-65 (4%) 66+ (1%)
Undergraduate Transfer Status: 99% of undergraduate students brought transfer credit from another institution. 
Employment: Of those who reported employment status, 48% of students were employed; 16% were seeking employment and 36% were not employed during their studies.
