The software (downloaded client). And the internet browser version.

  1. 1.    Log directly into the classroom via your web browser.

(Port number 510 must be open to incoming and outgoing connections.)

Once you have entered the classroom area, you may change your password to anything you want. (If you are using the Browser, it is located on the banner at left under Preferences. Using the Client is found under Collaborate.

Troubleshooting Tip: If you encounter difficulties changing your password, please email devburton@expandglobal.com with “Password Change” in the subject line and your desired password in the email text. Please allow up to 1 week for this change to take place. Only the emails from an email account listed in our system will be accepted for password changes.)

Directions to Virtual Classroom (VC)

Welcome! Enclosed you will find directions on how to get to the virtual campus. Class reading and assignments are posted in a folder titled MIE_0304.

Please read through the entire Course Syllabus Document, as well as the Lecture/Assignments for Week 1 Document for a clear understanding of what is expected in your course.

You will be given permission each week to enter into the current weeks assignments, seminar and discussion area. You can read and/or print any of these files. Post all discussion questions and answers to the Discussion Folder named for the current week.

Within each weekly seminar, there are between five and fifteen discussion question prompts. Instructors may indicate which of these question(s) students are assigned. All discussion questions should be answered in the appropriate conference or folder within the virtual classroom itself, making them viewable to other students and the instructor. The open-ended questions are designed to facilitate discussion between students.

You are also expected to read every posting from the other students and comment where appropriate.  Your comments to others’ postings are part of your grade. Your syllabus and instructor will further explain the participation points. Remember, students must actively participate in the classroom five out of seven days per week. After reading another students posting, you can reply and comment by clicking the reply button. I am sure you will find it very friendly and easy to use.

You also may have weekly assignments, quizzes, or exams that you must complete. These documents you must send to your instructor inside of the classroom by the day due.

To do this you’ll click on Mailbox. All you need to do is go to the mailbox, open an email, and send it to your instructor.

To send a message via the browser (web) version is simple. Click on the small Mailbox icon. Look to the left inside of the grayed out area. Click the drop down that says “Create” and select “New message”

Then type you instructor’s name: John Smith (Example) for your instructor’s mailbox. Insert a subject and body text and click “Send”.

A new message in the software (client) version is just as easy, simply navigate to your Mailbox and click “New” from the above toolbar.

Mail from your instructor will be posted to your personal mailbox in the classroom. Please be sure to access this regularly.

If you need any help navigating the classroom, or would like someone to walk you through the classroom, please give us a call at 800.474.8013 and either a student advisor or a classroom technical support specialist can help.

Important Troubleshooting Notes (Please read):

Even if you do not anticipate problems, or have logged into the classroom successfully in the past, please take a moment to review this section.

If you have forgotten your password, or the provided password doesn’t work and you receive the error “The user ID or password is not valid. Check that you have entered your user ID and password correctly. [1003]“ please reply to this message with the words password problem as the subject of your email. An email with a reset password will be sent as soon as possible, within the technical support office hours. Your password may revert to a new randomly generated number even if you have taken classes with us before.

If you’ve taken a few classes with us and you receive a message that suggests that you’re almost out of disk space (Default Limit is 5000k) in the classroom please simply reply to this email with “classroom space” in the subject line to increase your classroom space. You don’t need to delete any of your prior course work.

Please remember however, that if you wish to keep coursework to use as a study aid for future exams you should keep files backed up on your own computer, as inactive accounts are deleted periodically.

When can they be deleted? Any student’s account that is inactive for more than 90 days or 90 days past the end of their class may be deleted. If a student enrolls into another class during this inactivity period their account is safe.

To back up your own Mailbox simply right click and select Export. Then select the destination on your own computer.

If you receive the error “Sorry there is no FirstClass server with that name on the network. Check your connection setup. [1044]“ using the software (downloaded client) version then be sure to double check your setup, which can be found inside of the login box. The server line must read “69.88.106.89″.

If this information is all correct, you most likely have a permission problem on your computer that is preventing you from accessing the classroom. To fix this make sure your firewall or security software allows Firstclass to be installed.

This may require help from your IT Department if you are trying to access the classroom from work. Port #510 must be opened to incoming and outgoing connections for Firstclass to operate.
