Trade Compliance
The Trade Compliance emphasis within the BS in International Trade Management program is ideal for individuals who seek a well grounded and professionally significant education in the discipline of business, its practices, theories and policy, and want a thorough education in the application of U.S. trade compliance regulations and practices. Courses within this program prepare individuals to sit for the industry standard Certified U.S. Export Compliance Officer® examination.

Typically, individuals pursuing this degree are targeting management careers within or in support of the aerospace and defense industries or in organizations whose products and services require special consideration* when being exported or imported into the United States and other countries. People completing this degree are seeking to acquire practical management skills and understanding to aid them in their career advancement.

Student Profile
The typical student entering this program transfers in some college or military training credits earned in some cases decades earlier. Many currently work within the aerospace and defense industry in a trade compliance capacity and are pursuing their degree for personal reasons or to support job advancement. Students in this program range in age from mid-to late 20s to mid-to late 50s, with a median age of 38.

* Note: Exports requiring an export license from the U.S. Commerce Department’s Bureau of Industry and Security or State Department’s Directorate of Defense Trade Controls or other agencies are a central focus of this degree emphasis.
GENERAL EDUCATION COURSES
Of the 62 overall General Education credits required, the following mix of 30 semester credit hours must be completed to meet graduation requirements:
- A total of 6 semester credit hours in communications, 3 of which must meet the English Composition requirement.
- A total of 6 semester credit hours in the humanities
- A total of 6 semester credit hours in mathematics
- A total of 6 semester credit hours in the social sciences.
- A total of 3 semester credit hours in Science Technology
- A total of 3 semester credit hours in the physical sciences.
Electives:
The remaining 32 credit hours of the 121.5 credit hour degree requirement are Electives. Students may chose any of the other courses offered by DSU, transfer in accredited credits from other schools, apply military training credits, or provide CLEP credits to meet this requirement.
