Introduction to Global Finance

FAE-302

Course Description:

This six-week course provides a solid conceptual framework of accounting principles and procedures for non-accounting majors who want or need to be consumers of accounting/ financial information.  It examines the basic accounting system, including balance sheet, income statement and statement of cash flows. It explores management’s need and usage of financial information, including common accounting topics such as equity, retained earnings, debt accounts and recording transactions. Students learn how to prepare, analyze and read financial statements.

Prerequisite: None, however FAE-230 Accounting is highly recommended.

Course Credit: 3 Credit Hours

Foundations of International Financial Mgmt - Overview   

  • Understand how finance relates to globalization

International Monetary Policy  

  • Identify key issues related to international monetary policy

Balance of Payments   

  • Recognize the factors impacting the balance of payments

Foreign Exchange Market  

  • Break down the mechanics of the foreign exchange market

Forecasting Foreign Exchange Rates  

  • Determine how to forecast foreign exchange rates

Futures and Options on Foreign Exchange

  • Assess the value of futures and options on foreign exchange to the firm

Management of Transaction Exposure

  • Distinguish the exposure of international transactions

International Banking and Money Market

  • Understand the international banking and money market

Interest Rate and Currency Swaps

  • Examine the value of currency swaps in world financial markets

International Trade Finance

  • Discuss how to apply international finance methods to finance international trade
